I had planned to get some training in too. (One thing about teenagers' sleeping in is that I don't miss any time with them if I get my workout in early.) I got up Sunday morning for my long run: planned my route, dressed, grabbed the Garmin, sucked down a gel, and walked outside smack into a rain storm. Dang. I know some of you wouldn't have let that stop you but seven miles in a downpour on purpose? Not me.
Thank you all for the kind comments helping me get my whiny butt back into training mode. I'm still fighting the blah's. Yesterday's 30 minute trainer ride was a chore! My head kept saying, "I don't want to do this!" My thighs agreed. My heart though, my heart keeps us on track by whispering about strength, about change, about deserving the good stuff, about kicking a$$ in PG in September. I think I'm more settled this week.
I do have some training questions to throw out there to the peanut gallery. My training plan for this phase has me doing rides at certain RPM's. Donna helped me count it out on the trainer a couple of times last night, but it wouldn't be easy to do without help. What gadget do people use to track this? Second question is about nutrition. I've finally gotten the shot blok, sports drink piece pretty well worked out. I'm now trying to add gels reliably to my repertoire. As with all things triathlon, there seems to be an overwhelming number of choices. Aside from flavor - what do y'all consider when choosing gels?
Now I'll stop writing and start reading. My reader says I am 119 posts behind. Egad people! 119 posts in one (longish) weekend! You all are blogging fools!

Welcome back to bloggyland. Glad you had a good time.
You will want a cycle computer with cadence sensor. Plus, you will want to be able to mount it on the rear wheel so it works on the trainer.
This One is on sale for 35 and does what I mentioned above. I have seen several folks in my tri club reccomend it.
OR, if you have the Garmin forerunner 305, you could buy This for the same price and use your garmin indoors
Glad you are BACK.
I only use Hammer gels. This is because in the swag bag at my very first tri there was a Hammer Raspberry and I loved it! Still my fave -- I like the green apple as well.
Hammer seems to use less sugar than most so the gels aren't overwhelmingly sweet (though I haven't tried them all). I tried Tropical over the weekend during my run and didn't much like it.
I have a bike computer from CatEye which tells cadence and mph. Pretty reasonable price wise and essential in my opinion. You always want to maintain as high if a cadence as possible 80-85+, to keep your legs fresh for the run.
Welcome back! i ma glad you had fun with your boys!
I an original "Gu" girl. I only use vanilla bean too. Borrrr-ring!
I eat one Gu every 4 miles while running. When I do Cliff Blox I skip that gel. Usually after 16 miles I can't stand the thought of another gel. I am only good for about 4-5 gels in an event.
I am going to add fig newtons or mini nutter butters to the bike nutrition to see how that goes. I always feel like I need a little real food on the longer rides.
I ma looking at a new bike computer. Mine doesn't do cadence, but I want one that does that and average speed (I have a REALLY cheap bike computer because I never really rode much before this year)
Looks like you already got cadence info from Kevin. I like Power Gels. Not only do they have a variety of flavors I like, I like the fact they have electrolytes in them.
Welcome back!
Love the pics, and the Tom Brady shirt on the little one. :)
Welcome back, and glad you enjoyed the visit. The pictures are great...I have to bribe my boys to smile in pictures, too :)
Many bike computers have the cadence feature. I like Power Gels because there are so many flavors and they have electrolytes and some have caffiene. My favorite flavors are green apple, caramel, and latte :) I save the caffienated ones for the last miles of my long runs for an extra boost!
I'm so glad you had a great time with your boys in nashvegas! The rain sure sounds nice!!!! Sorry you missed running in it! I'm the psycho who loves it!!!
Now I must go to bed! Good training!!!
Welcome back!! I always feel that way when I see a ton of posts!
cycle computer with cadence if you want to track rpms. i have it on one bike, not the other. i don't do well with cadence so i don't focus on it right now.
i used strawberry banana power gels because there are about the only ones i can stand to suck down.
but i don't use gels as often as others because they make me feel a little sick. i do use accelerade (rather than water) and that helps with calories.
oh - and i started packing peanut butter tortilla rolls for bike riding and that seems to be doing okay for me.
Glad you had a good visit!! No advice for you here but enjoyed reading the responses.
