Weekend Wrap Up

RBR is kicking butt in the marathon. I LOVE live tracking.

Did you know thinking of your buddy who is running a marathon makes it harder to whine during your long run? And yet, I managed it. The first part suuuuucccckkked. It always does. I go through the same cycle in my head. The mean voices say, "If it's this hard to run a quarter of a mile, then how the hoolies are you going to run 4 (or 5 or 13)?!" I talk back. I say, "Yes, it sucks. I know it sucks. It gets better. I know it gets better!" We (me and the mean voices) go through this every time. Every. Blasted. Time. Oh well. I WIN!!!

I ran my plan exactly and felt strong at the end. I had hoped my pace would be a bit faster, but speed was not my focus. Finishing an hour run, THAT was my focus. 4.4 miles in 60 minutes. Donna felt terrible for the whole run (and yesterday's bike was rough for her too.) It's so interesting how much our needs and reactions differ on everything: nutrition, weather, training volume. It's great to train together. When one of us is down, the other helps lift spirits. When we're both down, it's nice to get to bitch together and when we're both up - man, what a celebration! Today I was the spirit lifter. Today I had juice to sprint the final bit. Today I wrapped up a kick ass training week!

I'm writing this post amid thousands of interruptions as we chivvy the kids up and through the kitchen, getting set to have friends over for lunch and to all go see Indiana Jones. We've got a crew of 15 going. You know it just doesn't take much to move from a family size gathering to a party size one when you start off with a family of eight! One last thing - we took our youngest to the Swim for Smiles this morning to cheer on one of his best buddies. It was inspiring and exciting. He wants to be in it himself next time. Yay for my budding triathlete!

Oh man the mean voices are there with me a fair amount of the time too! They were with me on my bike ride this morning telling me how slow I was and how much I sucked for walking up half of a very steep hill.

I shut them up tho. Had a really good run off the bike. Don't know where they were then. Don't care!

So glad you had such a good training week. Have fun at the movie!

The first ten to fifteen minutes of every exercise sucks.... LOL!! That's why I give myself an out after that time. If I ain't feelin it, I get to stop :-) Of course, by then the endorphins kick in and I am flyyyyyying :-)

"It gets better. I know it gets better!"

Really...I say that's a lie! :)

Thank you so much for all your support! It means so much to have friends to celebrate the successes
with! I can't wait to meet you at Pac Grove. It will be so cool!

Running: The first mile always sucks, but it almost always gets better.

Congrats on conquering that 1 hour mark. That is huge. If you can run for an hour, you can run for two, then three, and so on.

I always tell myself "settle in. You are going to be here a while." It seems to help me stop focusing on "it hurts, I am tired, I want to stop" and start thinking about other stuff.
