I cannot seem to convince my Garmin that I'm not Kenyan! It says it's having trouble acquiring me and persists in putting up a map of Africa. I feel like waving up to the satellite and yelling, "Dude, a little to the left and up some!" My poor Garmin. If it's expecting a Kenyan then it might not be able to find me because I run too slowly! I wonder how to go about lowering my Garmin's expectations.
On the up side, at least my Garmin knows I have a pulse. Here is my heart rate graph for my ride on the trainer with spin ups. I have no idea what this graph is supposed to teach me. I don't know how to use this information to help me with my training (yet). You're supposed to have a max heart rate to base your zones on so you can start training with your HRM, but you can't get that number without some recorded rides/races. I am not very comfortable with "which came first, the chicken or the egg" situations! I am much more of a "beginning, middle, end" kind of girl. I want to understand the process and have a framework before I start doing something. Historically this has sometimes meant that I put off (or entirely skip) doing things I'm interested in because I am too overwhelmed to start. (Note: I have been able to figure out things that intimidate me if it's for my children's sake but not for myself. I'm changing that! I'm worth the effort too.) I'm practicing jumping right on in and floundering around. "See me flail!" That's my new motto. In other news: the long bike this morning went well! GORGEOUS weather: a little cool though sunny, green, not humid, and breezy enough to be challenging but not enough to be demoralizing. We encountered zero jerky drivers, had no breakdowns, added a half an hour to our cycling time while speeding up the pace average by .3 mph over mostly the same course from last week. That, my friends, is a well-nigh perfect biking day for yours truly. What are the odds the trend can continue with a kickin' long run tomorrow?
Ciao!

Awesome job today. Hopefully your run tomorrow will be just as well if not better! :)
Nice job on the long ride! Here's to an equally awesome long run tomorrow!
Are you tying to acquire satellite inside? It can't get it sometimes. Other than that I don't know what is up with it.
Perhaps you are a Kenyan in spirit! LOL
Nice graphs! hehe
You can do the max heart rate thing, either with a 220 - age, or you can do a fitness test where you run hard and fast, take a recovery and then run flat out again. I'm sure a google search will turn up more accurate info.
I've found the heart rate zones invaluable tbh. Forcing me to kick it up a gear when I feel lazy, and convincing me to slow it down when I'm pushing too hard.
Hope it all works out for you too!
