But now am found...Yay! I not only got Garmin to look for me on the right continent, but saved, imported and exported all my data. Now I have graphs, maps, and charts! I clearly don't have my max hr set correctly, as I could not have spent 3o or so minutes in Zones 4- 5 today while talking to Donna all through the run. Still...we're making progress.

We had a solid run: three flat miles (which for us is our "long" run at this point in our training plan) with the goal of running steady and under our comfort pace of 12 min miles. It was a fine run, slightly warm and humid but overall ok. There's a hill at the turnaround and I felt great coming down it. I was warmed up, striding smoothly, and digging into the run. BUT the last 3/4 mi got harder and harder. I had tightness in my right hip on the outside that started creeping down my leg. It wasn't pain exactly but like someone was using a wrench and winding up something in my leg. The tension crept down to the outside of my right knee - exactly where the pain was last week after the mini tri. This time it did not hurt but it was slowing me down. Like my leg just would not do what I was asking it to do. Instead of finishing strong, my run dribbled off while I saw later that my heart rate went up. Very weird! I came home and stretched and iced. I wasn't even sure what to ice! The knee or the hip where it seemed to start? (I concentrated on the knee but gave the hip a short turn with the gel pack.)
When I get done with the family portion of the day (yard work, family meal, weekly grocery run, kid playdates etc!) I'll try to find some time to do more research. I am determined to stay healthy and whole. Determined.
Peace out peeps!

Your post title made me laugh. I'm so glad your Garmin found you!
Oh, I hope the pain goes away...good job researching and being determined to do the right things to stay healthy :)
And now you are found by your GARMIN! Woo Hoo! And yes baby! We will be meeting in San Fran on August 3 2008! I'm officially entered! We should discuss hotels etc!!! See you in San Fran!!!
Welcome! you are officially in gramin world!
Glad to see the Garmin is working for you!
FYI, sometimes ITB pain can be caused by running on slanted surfaces and also from running in worn shoes. Try running in a different or new pair of shoes to see if that might be the problem. I always replace my shoes after 300-400 miles and rotate between a couple different pairs of running shoes to allow them to dry out and allow the midsole to spring back as much as possible in between runs.
I am sure your research will yield a solution to the issues with your leg -- looks like some good advice from Shirley.
I need to get a Garmin I think. Worked out this weekend with someone who has one and got a hankering for one. :-) Which Garmin do you have?
I was thinking ITB while reading your post - shirleyperly beat me too it.
Stretch it all out!
I wish I could make it to San Fran!
Everyone beat me to it - ITB issues! Try one of those foam rollers, too! (Also UltraIronGeekGrl has had it recently - ask her what worked!)
Your new toy sounds like SO MUCH FUN!!! I'd love to get a Garmin!
Don't you just love the garmin? :)
I'm very excited about San fran and will be booking a hotel this week! A friend of mine, who is not a runner, wants to come up with me, it would be nice to have someone to drive with and watch velcro-but she wants to go out the night before and drink...some people just don't understand!!! Oh well....
