Somebody 'Splain Me

Joining the ever-expanding file of "Things I Don't Get":
I saw a bike commuter yesterday - nice ride, cool panniers, cargo pants/t-shirt combo, no glasses but a crazy little contraption sticking out over his ear which turned out to be a rear-view mirror. Fine - nice and handy for seeing traffic behind you - a great safety item - and yet Mr. Dipweed an even better safety item would be a fucking HELMET!

My $.02.

I guess he thought that by having the mirror, he would not be blindsided by a car, and therefore didn't need the helmt.

that's the only explanation I can come up with...

It blows my mind how many people don't wear helmets.

I have started to expect it in 'normal commuters', but just this morning I saw it on a roadie.

Full team kit and nice bike everything, but NO helmet!

I can't recall but isn't there some times where Lance was on the tour with no helmet? I think it was during some major climbs.

I don't know...it baffles me, too. And, I really cringe when I see people on motorcycles with no helmet! I even have a friend who rides without a helmet on the motorcycle. I tried to persuade her, but she said it didn't look as cool. I said...you being dead isn't cool!

Just plain dumb, IMO. I'd ride w/o my rear view mirror if I had to but never w/o my helmet.

Hopefully in your state they ticket folks who don't wear helmets. They do that in Washington State (where I grew up), but don't appear to in VA.
