Stress Much?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Yeah, crazy week. You? Seems like this is a stressful time for lots of folks.
School finishing up means finals for the kids and trying to hold it together for just a little bit longer. It means end of the year pool parties, finding long lost library books, sorting and purging clothes (as my kids have to pack to be gone all summer), and summer hair cuts. We've also celebrated three birthdays in one week (with another coming up in June) and had out of town guests.

"Training?" you ask. To which I reply, "What's that?" :(
I did swim. Once. That is IT this week. Luckily it's a light volume week anyway with a trial run triathlon (on our own) this weekend. I do realize that skipping workouts is not the same as light volume. I'm tempted to say I need a new category of extremely light volume, but I am hoping to have it together enough not to need a label like that very often. I'm not going to beat myself up about it, though. I made the choice this week to spend extra time with my family. Partly they needed me. Partly I needed them. (Swimming is good for relieving my anxiety over the court stuff but hugs from my guys reminds why it's worth it to keep fighting in the first place.) Partly I had to get over the frustration of not having enough energy to do it all.

So. Swim, bike, run tomorrow - sprint distances. On fresh legs and arms. Very fresh. So fresh they may have forgotten what to do! I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck to anyone racing (Willie - you're the only one I know of for sure!) Everyone else - enjoy your training and recovering.

We all have weeks like that. I think it just goes along with the training. :)

I bet your legs will repay you for the week off with some awesome performances this weekend!

When I was sick a few weeks ago, I missed almost a week of training. This worried me, but things were great when I felt better.

You can look at is as a taper for your Tri trial this weekend. Hope that goes well and then just pick it back up next week

I learned a long time ago to be at peace with the things I have to do. Good luck with your mock tri! You have a blast, and tomorrow is indeed, a new day :-)

Calyx, I'm sure you'll do fine on your practice tri. You won't have lost much in just a week. Hope you have a great holiday weekend!!

You and me both but for different reasons. It's okay. I'm sure that you will do well in your mock tri -- the rest will make you faster! :-)

I'm having a zero volume week due to illness. I'm stressed about it, but what can you do?

I have noticed that I do better than I expected after a week or so 'rest' so I'm believing the fresh legs theory.

Calyx,

Everyone needs a week to do Family stuff and to have time to themselves-this was your week. Stress can be a killer especially when it's family legal stress. Your workouts might have been affected by your stress-I know mine are!! A week off is sometimes the best thing-if I only listened to my own advice!!! I bet your practice tri goes great! Let us know!!!

These are the times that try mens (and women's) souls. It's Ok to take a week off, sometimes you can't avoid it. Don't sweat it. You are a great athlete and will get back to training when things slow down. Your family is most important and you can't forget that. Don't worry about it, you'll do great.

Part of why we do this is to be "better" in our real lives. Triathlon, etc. is a hobby, but family and friends are the real measure of our lives. Good for you for taking time for what is important. Now, go kick some practice tri ass!

Nice... I remember seeing those posters MANY years ago - but I need to print it out again and put it on my cube wall.
