Quick Thoughts

I'll post more about our crazy day but the short sketch is that we ended up doing our 5K race AND our training "mini-triathlon".

Lessons Learned:
  • Chinese food is NOT good pre-race dinner for me. (Nice invitation, fun times with all the kids and some of their/our friends - but still... NEVER again.)
  • The sun - she does not shine at 5:30 a.m. in NC in April - no matter how much you need her to wake the heck up and light your way on the bike.
  • Dogs and children will still need to get where they need to be on Saturdays especially if they are sick (dog) or signed up for a French project (child).
  • I really need to figure out how to drink and pedal at the same time.
  • Putting the finish line in a parking lot at the TOP of a big hill is just plain mean.
  • Thinking of your running buddies (who are all running MUCH longer races) is a great thing to do when running up long hills.
  • This story is sad and scary and one to think about, but NOT while training.
  • Chapel Hill/Carrboro is an incredibly beautiful area. I'm grateful to get to live in such a lovely community.
I have been up too long, doing too many things for too many people - all good, but I'm too tired to be coherent. Southbay Girl's race report is wonderful and I can't wait to see the others.

**I have to add that today is my father's 65th birthday! Happy Birthday Papa!

Yes, a finish line at the top of a big hill is cruel...that has happened to me a lot lately!

Happy b-day to your dad :)

That is a pretty sad story about one of our own.

That story is very sad.

One of my students sent me that story. It is very sad and more than a little scary.

Great job on the 5K AND your mini-triathlon! I can't wait to read your race report!

A pre race dinner that works for me is: chicken breast (or some other form of lean protein), baked potato (plain w/Mrs. Dash) and applesauce (no sugar added). And a glass of milk. As much as I want until comfortably full.

I've been told no fiber the night before!

Great job on the 5k. Yes hills are mean, wherever the RD puts them. :-)
