AMAZING swim workout! I felt strong, buoyant, fast (even though I wasn't especially), and ... elated. Maybe that's a strange word but its exactly how I felt. I had it going on! I glided through the water. (Glid? I'll echo RBR and say "stupid past tense verbs"!) It was a tiny, short workout. We couldn't resist adding in a couple extra hundreds. I didn't want to get out of the pool. I played around with flip turns. I used to LOVE flip turns. They were my favorite part of swim practice back when I was on a swim team (gack! 30 years ago!) In my head practice went something like this: swim, swim, swim, FLIP!!, swim, swim, swim, FLIP!! Today it was more like swim, swim, swim, swim, swim, swim, FLOUNDER, (snort), swim, swim, swim, etc.Flip turns are relatively useless to the triathlete as there are no handy walls to flip against in the ocean/lake (much less the guiding black lines to help you set them up) but it was fun, FUN I tell you, to play around with them a little bit today.
Now I have to go write. I am in the middle of a never ending chapter that I'm fixing to throw away rather than have to work on anymore! Maybe the swim joy will translate itself into writing joy? Here's hoping!

Yeah I remember doing these as a kid. Though I was never on the swim team.
I keep trying to pluck up the courage to give it another go in the pool. but I have to be super-secretive and wait until absolutely no-one is watching just incase I have to burst through the surface coughing and spluttering.
Maybe I should create some kind of diversion this week, and try.
You know, I was hoping I didn't have to learn to do flip turns because they're really hard for me. But triathletes can actually benefit from doing them according to one very respected coach: http://www.d3multisport.com/newsletter/mar2008.htm
So I'm trying to work them in ...

Hysterical! Thank you! That made me snort (with laughter).
I obviously do not do flip turns. The coach at my pre-masters class "requires" them, but he lets me get away with not doing them. Threatening to throw up really gets you some sweet swim practice perks!
