I have wanted a running skirt for two years now. I first saw one during the 2006 Country Music Half Marathon. The girl I saw (as she blew by me wearing a black skirt with white stripes down the side) looked sassy and comfortable - AND she was my size. Not a wee, thigh-less thing.I LOVE my Sugoi biking skirt - to the point that on the 450 mile ride from Central Vermont to Montreal back through upstate NY to VT again, I washed it out every night and wore it every single day. LOVE it. I expected to love my new Nike running skirt to the same degree. Meh. My Nike running skirt is... okay. It fits well, is exactly the right length and is comfortably cute. The negative - and it's pretty much of a deal breaking negative for me - is that the built-in "compression" shorts ride up. Seriously ride up. That leads to chafing on anything longer than a 30 minute run. It also makes me look ridiculous as I attempt to tug them down modestly on the trail. In the dressing room I didn't notice that the inner shorts weren't tight or think about the fact that they didn't have that sticky band at the bottom cuff the way my biking shorts do. I've never had to worry about clothing being too loose on my thighs before!! (Never!!) On cold days when I've worn my long Pearl Izumi tights underneath my running skirt, I haven't had a problem. I've thought about wearing my Under Armour compression shorts but it seems like too much bother and layering just to have a skirt on top. Bah. Does anyone have a running skirt they love? I saw a cute - very, very pink (RBR have you seen it?) - running skirt at Target that I coveted. It seemed to be more spandexy and less supertech loose, wick fabricky. Maybe I'll try that one and see if it's a matter of fabric/fit/cut or if it's an issue of just plain having mutant thighs.
So that's my two on running skirts.
I've got a swim on my books today after yesterday's rest day and Wednesday's surprisingly strong brick - 30 min ride, 15 min run. Happy training y'all. (And did you see Candace Parker play the other night?!! She ROCKS! Damn she's tough. Can't wait for Sunday's game!)

While I don't have any personal experience with any running skirts and woman I run with says she has one and the compression shorts ride up. I tried one on the other day and I just wasn't sure about it. Perhaps it was the pale, winter skin that was creeping me out! LOL
I haven't done the running/biking skirt thing mostly because the shorts are usually too short. I am not a huge fan of my legs and usually run in sweats even in the summer (tragic, I know).
I use compression shorts under my sweats. I think the skirts are really cute, but I am with you about shorts riding up, that is definitely a deal breaker.
I have been thinking about trying some skirts (I really can't run in sweats forever, if I find one that works I will let you know, but thank you for the gear review on the Nike skirt because it was one of the skirts I was looking at.
I do have a running skirt I like and run in. It's from runningskirts.com. I bought the polka dot red one-I really love it. It doesn't have compression shorts, just "panties" but I ran a long run and got chafing-so, I went and bought some Pseudo compression shorts that I wear underneath the skirt(they do sell them with compression shorts-but I haven't bought that one yet). I've found I'm much happier with the added compression shorts-My right side rolls up a bit-I think it's because one leg is slightly shorter than the other!!! But I find there is more freedom in my skirt and I'm pulling at it less! Si I'm a big fan!
First let me say that you girls are very lucky to be able to wear skirt for a run. I would LOVE to wear one and I'll spare you the reasons why. I think the Roman men had the right idea with the togas and skirts they wore. Of course I suppose the reason why men can't wear skirts is that we would not be as modest as you girls are with them!
I hope you work out you're problem and find a skirt that works for you. I'll stick with my shorts until Kilts become fashionable in marathons again.
Well - I have a red headed son who always wears a kilt to school on Fridays (along with his goth boots, bandana holding his shoulder length hair back, and his beard braided if he can get it to stay). Did I mention my family is Scottish? Willie - I think you should start your own 'wearing of the kilt' in marathons! (I'd volunteer my son to join you - but he whines about the one mile required run for PE.) As for me? I'm going to keep experimenting with running skirts b/c my biking one is sooooo great. There you go!
I'm almost definitely doing the San Fran half especially since I didn't get into the Nike Womens Half! I love San Fran!!! I have to wait a few more weeks before applying purely for financial reasons-trying to get back on my feet financially after the 3 month strike!!!
