In Which I Inhale Ants (Again)

It's that time of year again. I braved the morning downpour to snip this lovely for my desk. I think I'm addicted to the scent of peony. Can't. stop. sniffing. it.

In other news...I rocked my bike trainer workout Tuesday (after reading Iron Snoopy's inspiring IMKY race report) and then totally bailed on last night's swim. To be honest - I'm not worried about the swim. I love water - and being in water - especially the ocean is what makes me feel most at home. The swim part of the race being in the Intracoastal Waterway is interesting and a totally new experience for me but still...not stressing about the swim. (Yet.) This week, I realized I needed to pick my battles. Letting myself off the hook for a swim workout makes it practically impossible to skimp on any of my other (i.e. bike and run) workouts this week. Which is good. Because I'm stressing pretty hard about being a fast enough cyclist and strong enough runner. Hoolies - the B2B is 6 months from today!! And we have a road race this weekend. A 10K. I've never done a stand alone 10K race before. I've probably only run 10K in about a dozen training runs in my life. Granted, I do have an Oly tri and two half marathons under my belt in addition to those dozen 10K (ish) training runs. Why doesn't that give me more confidence?? Good news is it'll be a PR, right?

We have speedwork on the plan for tonight with upper body lifting and core work for tomorrow. AND Donna found an awesome women's trail running group called Team Sakina that we're going to join tonight! I am super excited about that.

Finally - I'm celebrating the scale numbers! I'm jumping the gun a bit since my monthly weigh in doesn't happen until tomorrow (the 8th) but I don't care. My weekly date with the bathroom scale is on Thursdays and as of this morning I've lost a total of 17.4 pounds (since Jan 8th)!! Woo hoo and YAY ME! (Only 22.6 more to go on or before November 7th - and to keep it all off for the rest of my life.) I feel great; my workouts are strong (well - except for the very, very few that I blow off!); and I'm eating a ton of yummy food. I'm not sure it can get better than this. I love my life. LOVE IT!

TODAY I LOVE: my life (did I mention that?) and peonies!

Congrats on those numbers! Way to GO! I may email you for some recipes/food motivation!

Oh and I LOVE the colorful books/notebooks on your desk! I have the same sort of thing. All of my business binders/composition books are bright colors and/or patterns!

So fun!

I loved my swim at IM FL... Something about swimming in the ocean, lost in my thoughts. I built a little cocoon around myself and thought I was swimming alone. It was awesome.

Great job on the training, and the numbers! Woot!!! That trail running group sounds like lotsa fun!! Keep up the good work!!

YAY YOU on the impressive weight loss, indeed, sister!

But, hey, sister, when you say you're inhaling ants, I hope you're not snorting them because ants are a well-known gateway insect and sooner than you know it, you'll be like smoking roaches and shiz and then - BAM! BAM! BAM! - that'll be both the DEA and The NEA (National Entymologists Association) taking battering rams to your front door and you'll have to run WAY farther than 10k to get away from them!

So a word to the wise - knock it off with the ant-snorting before it's too late.

(And the less said about taking Spanish Fly, the better!)

congrats on the weight loss! I need to kick it into gear ahead of my October marathon - I'd like to run my marathon at about 10 lbs lighter than I am now.

I do have my first tri- in 12 weeks, and I am SCARED of the swimming bit. SCARED! I just need to get my ass to the pool, I know, but SCARED!

Your 10k will be fantastic - and nothing like a guaranteed PR, right?

Gateway insect, NEA, Spanish Fly - OMG! Glaven, you crack me the hell up. How can Marcy stand to give up blogging and not have your comments anymore???

Ant snorting, isn't that reserved for Ozzy Osbourne? You're more hardcore than I previously thought:)

Finding the perfect weight to power ratio is hard. Nice work on those numbers. B2B, woot woot!

You're making great progress! Very cool!

I cried when I first read IronSnoopy's race report for IMKY. It was totally inspiring---I think I need to re-read it.

OMG, are we really only 6 months away from B2B? Keep up the good work!

Awesome news on the weight loss and new training group!! And I've (still) not run a standalone 10K either. Funny that it scares me less when part of a tri. Good luck this weekend on your race!

What a gorgeous peony! I love peonies!! The gardenias are blooming here right now and they smell DEVINE.

Way to go on all that lb. loss!! Now come kick my butt so I can drop a few too!!

fantastic!!! on all counts. gorgeous peonies.

I agree with the not beating yourself up. I do this every time I miss a workout (sadly, becoming a more frequent occasion!). But so important to just MOVE ON.

i think 10k is a tough distance. but since you will automagically PR at it, no worries!

Great job on the weight loss too!

Your numbers are awesome! You are rocking it out. I am so bummed that I will not be at B2B to see your first 1/2 Iron.

We still need to run a marathon together!

Awesome numbers! I hoping to see some scale dropping numbers too. I got a bike ride in on Saturday and a run on Sunday.

Great job on the weight loss! I do believe you are on your way to keeping it off forever! (and even if you slip, once you've done it,you can do it again if necessary!) Love peonies! They don't bloom here until June at least.

Congratulations on your weight loss and your training. You are doing awesome! :)

I don't know that I've ever smelled peony. Must go find one.
