On The Meaning Of Stronger
We're still putting our training plan together for the half iron goal but overall we want to be stronger. I've been thinking a lot about what being stronger means. Reading about Stef overcoming weather, ridiculous number of flat tires, and being strong throughout her quest to finish Silverman completely inspired me. There are so many facets to developing strength -whether it be mental strength or physical. Practicing patience, consistency, determination and kindness - that is what it's going to take for me to get stronger. I know it's a baby step and it's mostly in the physical realm, but it's a challenge I've been thinking about and talking about for a while. Today Donna and I are starting the 100 Push Up Challenge. (I want arms like Lisa's damnit!!) I'm pretty sure I'll be on week one for a while but I can do push ups three times a week. Yes I can. I hate them. I have resisted this goal. But it keeps sitting there, bugging me. It must be done. And I can do it. (I'll try to remember to post weekly results but feel free to call me on this one!) How many of you have done this challenge all the way through?

I started doing a pushup challenge of my own in the summer in hopes of making myself mentally stronger. But then I got injured and let it slide by the wayside. Need to get back to it!
A half ironman journey begins with a single push up :-)
This is so exciting! Can't wait to see how your half iron plans play out.
The push up challenge is a good idea. I don't know how many push ups I can do. One maybe?
Thanks for the shout out too and all of your support. It means so much to me.
i haven't tried to challenge yet. be sure to post some pics so we can admire the progress of the "guns"!
Good Luck. Sad to say, but I started and quit after 6 weeks at week 3. I need to pick it back up.
I just started the "modified" version of the pushup challenge last week - it's the way Lisa's trainer encouraged her to do it. There's no way I could do the real challenge. I could only do one to begin with! This week, I'm up to three....woohoo!!
You can do it! I know you can, you've got it girl.
Sorry I haven't been around your blog lately. Miss you and Donna!
That damn challenge is haunting me. Good luck with it. I will be joining you shortly!!
YAY for new plans!!
I've wanted to do the push-up challenge but just haven't gotten to it yet. I keep putting it off and then forget about it, maybe I'll get to it one of these days. Good luck to ya!
I'm flattered by the reference to my arms.
I am *not* following that plan. If you want, I can tell you what I *am* following and why.
But either way, I highly recommend pushups. Definately will make you stronger...mentally and physically. :-)
Yay for push-ups and strong arms! I never did the push-up plan but my personal trainer knew that I could do them and used to make me do them endlessly (including full push-ups with a 10kg plate on my back). I'm working on pull-ups at the moment - that's my new goal!
I'm looking forward to hearing more about your half-Ironman plan. I've left a message with a trainer from our gym who specialises in Ironman plans. My 160km cycle race is on the 29th of this month and there's a marathon I want to train for on 2 May 2009, but it all depends on what I can do without breaking myself enroute to 70.3!
