Aforementioned Treasure

I was going to include this gem with the Pac Grove RR but while I reserve the right to tack it on to that report (eventually), I couldn't help posting it today. Below is a picture my Navy buddy Lizichka brought with her to Monterey. It is a picture of me and Donna on the very day that we decided to become triathletes. (And it's clickable if you want to get a closer look at how very young we were!!) I know I've told the story before of how we went to the September 1995 Music City Triathlon and were hooked, so I won't go into all the details of why it wasn't until September of 2008 that we finished our first Olympic tri. Lizichka and Donna are the only two training partners I've ever had - and it was the three of us who finally did the tri last month. In 1995, Lizichka (stationed far away in Spain) was the only one I knew who wouldn't laugh at the idea of me doing a triathlon - and that's why I sent her the picture. I had to tell someone who would understand. It was just perfect that Lizichka had saved that evidence of our link and enthusiasm and brought it out the night before the race. Peace.

O.M.G. You guys are so cute! You look like kids. Then again you kind of were. Let's see in 95 I was 27 which would make you guys 26 or so . . .

Were you emotional when she showed you the photo again? Seems like it really represents how far you have come in sport. You pursued your dream of a tri even though many years and life events intervened. I really admire that.

What a wonderful memento! And, yes, you two look so young. How wonderful to be able to look back and see here it all started and how far you've come since then. Friendships like that are so special.

The funny thing is, I read '95 and thought oh, about 5 years ago (??) and then I looked at your picture and though wow they look so young. I realized my mistake, it is 2008 Kelly!! That was way more than 5 years ago :-).

Apparently I refuse of acknowledge the years and how much time has gone by (something about the fact I think I'm still in my early 20's)!

Or maybe it's like I have 5 miles left on this ride that equals 5 minutes, right??!!

I still can't beleive you were hooked than and finally realized that dream! How awesome it must have been that day. Yay for all of you!

Now this is one of the cutest pictures I've seen in a while! What a priceless gift from your friend - friends like that are keepers :)

I love that you and Donna pursued your dream of triathlon even if it was years later. That makes it even more special, I think.
