Life, she happens! I'm here, training even, but what a crazy few days. A three hour bike ride (42 miles), an hour run (4.7 miles), and a few miserable (yet helpful) foam roller sessions have been wedged in between celebrating Father's Day (early) and a 16th birthday (also early), a writing deadline (late), out of town guests (right on time) and a news story with deep, personal resonance (never too late for peace). At least I hope that peace is what comes from that news story. Marcia was my friend and my first experience with mystery, loss, or tragedy. (There are two links at the bottom of that story to the interview I gave this winter. I don't know if anyone not from Nashville can understand the impact her case had on our community in the 70's and clearly, I am not cut out to be a public speaker, but I put it out there because it was important to me to tell the piece of the story I hold. And? I won't ever be on TV again if I can help it!)I've had a lot to contemplate but (with everyone going Mach 10 in different directions!) not a lot of time in which to process it all. Guess that's what next week's long ride is for. My reader is chock full and I am looking forward to

You have been busy!! Hang in there! Great ride and run!
Sorry to hear Marcia was your childhood friend. Hope the indictment will provide some closure for you and her family. I've always thought that long workouts are great for catching up with oneself.
Hang in there, you're strong and things will get better. I find runs to be a good outlet to just let the world slide away.
My foam rollers arrives later this week. NOT looking forward to it.
I do understand. marcia wasn't my friend by March was...and i grew up in Nashville when your childhood was forever lost!
Glad to see you back posting! What a tough experience to have gone through as a kid. I can't imagine it.
Hang in there and glad to hear you've been training through everything that has been going on. You will get through all of this and be stronger for it.
These stories make me so sad. And to think that you were friends and had a horrendous trauma at such a young age! Maybe this brings the family some solice at least..
That had to be so horrible and scary to lose your childhood friend under such awful circumstances at such a young age. I am glad (but so sad for Marcia) that you were not with her on that day.
When I was 13 or so, our town experienced a scare as well. Teenage girls were being raped, and they couldn't find the rapist. I remember my older sister and I sleeping in the same bed because were were afraid. The rapist was targeting popular cheerleaders at our high school. Eventually, he murdered one of the girls. Turns out, it was the captain of our high school football team. The story was aired on 48 hours:

If the link doesn't work, just google "Wesley Miller rape case"
You have a lot going on, but you are stronger than before. Hang in there :)
Sorry to hear about that. I hope things get taken care of in that case.
