However, I was pretty excited to have scored an extra three pieces gratis. Until I tasted them. Luna Moons (of the watermelon variety**) taste ... yucky. So sad! They're cute - love the moon shape. They're chewy - which is sometimes a plus. They're even organic - but so is dirt. I just don't yike them. I very much wanted to. I think it's fantastic that there's a company intentionally designing products to meet the nutritional needs of female athletes. I want to support them. But egad - you know it's not good when something tastes better as you burp it up on your three mile run than it did going down in the first place. I have
**Dare I try another flavor? Can't do the blueberry because I'm allergic to those (and raspberries too - which sucks, in case you were wondering). The only other flavor I've seen is pomegranate. As much as I enjoy the juicy, seedy weirdness of real pomegranates in the fall - I'm not a huge fan of pom-tini's and the like. I know - individual tastes and yada, yada, yada - but what say you?
EDITED TO ADD: Oh I am so sorry Luna Moon people!! It was not my intention to keep other people from trying these little chewy bits of, um ... ickiness on my say so. They might be JUST the thing for other people. They might even turn out to be something I can tolerate. (I am bound and determined to eat at least the rest of this package before I give up all hope.) I have strange issues with tastes. Really! I love salty things and have a hard time with sweet things (well, except Lemonheads and Jolly Ranchers - oh my word I love those). But I don't really like chocolate! See? Weird! Kevin, Lisa - you should at least try one package for yourselves. Who knows? You might like them. They might not make you burp. And it would keep me from feeling guilty about costing the maker of Moon Moons $2.50 in lost revenue!

Thx for the review...i'll skip the moons. I do like the luna bars though (especially chocolate peppermint...yummmm)
If you're into chewy stuff, shot blocks aren't too bad. I like the margarita (extra sodium) and pina colada...it's like I'm enjoying happy hour on the bike ;)
Thanks for the review. Now I know to avoid them
I don't mind Luna Moons. I like the raspberry. I haven't tried watermelon. I like that they are small whereas shot blocks are so big they are hard to chew. My favorite though of this sort is sport beans. Love them - especially tangerine and lemon-lime.
I bought the blueberry ones. They are not too bad but more chewy than I thought they would be..
I second the shot blocks. I take them on the bike. Just be aware that a whole one is A LOT too chew.
I'd suggest biting one in half. otherwise you may burn more calories chewing it then you get from the block!
I like your blog btw. Very funny!
I will second the Luna Moons are gross (the are too chewy for me) I like the Cliff Shot Blocks as well. I don't mind the size. When you need something to chew and can't stand Gu anymore I think they are just the ticket.
OK, sounds like I won't like them. I'm not fond of chewing while training or racing and don't like Clif Bloks or Sports Beans for that reason (though I can eat either while sitting in front of a computer :-).
I'll stick with energy gels. I know a lot of folks hate the slimy snot-like consistency but they don't bother me a bit!
